BEHIND THE SCENES!you're already reading it

my old site said i lived in san francisco. and did 'big tech' in 2019.

i live in delhi. in 2019 i was 12.

three earlier attempts are still on my disk.

partly why it's full.

why build it? no idea. i was experimenting and it got cool.

this is the diary. the one you weren't supposed to open.

(the narrator) please please please do not touch anything.

(whispers) ...who is it?

how the room got built

the problem

my old site was a template with someone else’s life in it. this one had to be mine: my desk, on delhi time. and fast, which painted worlds usually aren’t.

what i built

i directed it. claude code agents wrote and fixed the code, codex painted the art, and a second codex, sol, reviewed the launch. i set the rules and the budget, and threw out the first paintings for looking “ai-generated”.

how the art works
  1. a blender blockout: layout, light, masks
  2. codex paints over tight crops of it
  3. night and neon as edits, warped back into line
  4. cut into layers
  5. rive plays it: one .riv, 60 fps

the page owns the rest: delhi time, the words, the sound. next.js.

the hard call

blender for structure, codex for surface. blender alone looked like clean cg. codex alone moved the furniture, 17–22 px on the wide shot. painting tight crops over the render kept things in place: 3 px.

what broke

before launch, sol found 6 bugs in 3 rounds; three claude reviewers found 25 more: 13 got fixed, the other 12 were nits. then a real 3g test caught the worst: on android, your first tap on anything just slid the room. a focus handler panned the button out from under your finger. one-line fix.

limits: the main thread still blocks for 1.4–2.2 s while it loads, and on a mid-range phone on 4g the live room takes ~10 s to replace its poster; on a slow line, longer.

the numbers

lcp ~0.4 s · 0.33 mb of js · cls ≈ 0 · ~120 ms to respond

next to 10 of the best personal and immersive sites (bruno simon, igloo, lusion, lando norris…): the fastest real picture of the immersive ones, and the lightest js.

proof

you’re standing in it. the code is private.

sol’s budget, in my words: “2 or 3 times at max.”

the end.

of issue #12 THIS PORTFOLIO anyway.
